On Wednesday July, 23rd MACC hosted a community forum on the Morningside Business District Concept Plan. The forum was the culmination of six months process of community engagement and market analysis to develop a vision for design and enhancement of community’s business district. Nearly one hundred residents and business owners attended the forum and sharpened the focus of the plan by sharing their insights and expressing desired next steps.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Councilman Patrick Dowd and Joe Kramer, representing State Senator Jim Ferlo’s office set the tone of the meeting by congratulating residents for the dedication and expressing the value the plan will assist them in providing resources to the community. Cherie Moshier of Moshier Studios and Sarah Thompson and Mike Kotyk of Pashek Associates, the designers hired by MACC to draft the plan, then presented their concepts for the district and several building façade simulations. The concept plan outlines three opportunities or themes for the community to pursue; encourage greater connectivity in the district, create awareness for the district’s location and to define the Greenwood Street corridor.
The designers asked residents to prioritize between enhancing storefronts, improving access and mobility through the district, improving streetscape amenities and increasing the districts visibility. Surveys from the forum and will tabulated and incorporated into the final draft of the plan. Please note that the documents available for review below are still in draft form.
