Nominate the 2016 Morningside Mile Honoree!

Each year the Morningside Mile honors one individual from the Morningside area who has served our country and/or its citizens unselfishly in the face of crisis. Nominate a local hero (police officer, emergency medical technician, soldier, firefighter, etc.) who you believe deserves this distinguished honor. Nominations are due by Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Fourth Annual Comedy Night Fundraiser

A special evening of fun benefiting the Morningside Mile!

The Morningside Mile Committee invites you to attend the 4th annual Comedy Night Fundraiser featuring Bill Crawford, Sean Collier, Gene Collier, and T.J. Hantz.

All money raised goes to support the Morningside Mile and its 2015 beneficiaries: the Pittsburgh Fisher House and the Morningside Area Community Council.

When: Friday, July 24, Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:30pm

Where: VFW on Morningside Avenue, 1820 Morningside Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206

2014 Morningside Mile Wrap Up

On behalf of the Morningside Mile Committee, we would like to thank you for your participation, donation, and support for the runners for the 4th Annual Morningside Mile Honoring Those Who Serve! This year we had just under 200 participants register for the one mile race and many others attend the Morningside Mile MACC n’ Cheese competition and Comedy Night fundraisers. Together, we raised over $6,000 for the Allegheny Gold Star Mothers and the Morningside Area Community Council in the name of our 2014 honoree – Morningside resident and Gold Star Mother, Mrs. Frances Colletto 1914-2013.

This year’s Morningside Mile Comedy Night will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014, at the VFW. This is a 21 and over event.

MACC n’ CHEESE Bake-Off

Morningside Area Community Council (MACC) invites you to the  1st Annual  MACC n’ CHEESE  Bake-Off

Morningside Residents battle it out for the neighborhood’s best mac and cheese!

Saturday, March 8th, 2014

7:00PM – 11:00PM

Morningside VFW Social Hall (1820 Morningside Avenue)

Tickets $20 (Must be 21+ to Attend)

Ticket includes Mac and Cheese Tastings, Wings, Beer, Music, and Neighbors!

Cook Off Information: 

1. There is no entry fee.

2. Set-up is on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 6:00PM. Some preparation can be done at the site.

3. Gloves must be worn during the preparation and serving. These will be provided to you on the day of the event.

4. You must prepare enough mac and cheese for 100+ two-ounce tastings. The two-ounce tasting cups will be provided to you on the day of the event.

5. You must provide the utensils and tools needs to prepare and serve the mac and cheese. Only electricity and tables will be provided.

6. If your mac and cheese ingredients could be harmful (e.g. seafood, hot peppers, etc) please notify the organizers ahead of time.

7. Judging will start at 6:30PM before the doors open.

8. Doors open to the participants at 7:00PM. Again, each team will be provided two-ounce tasting cups. You will need to serve your mac and cheese until 8:00PM.

9. There will be two awards – the judges average score and the people choice! Prizes will be announced at approximately 9:00PM.

Morningside Mile Honoring Those Who Serve – 2013 Wrap Up

Thank you for your participation/donation/support for the runners for the 3rd Annual Morningside Mile Honoring Those Who Serve! This year we had over 150 participants register for the event and many others attend the Morningside Mile pasta dinner and comedy nights.  Together, we raised over $7,500 for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Morningside Area Community Council in the name of our honoree – Morningside resident, Army veteran, and current Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Officer David Condon.

Check Presentation

We will be presenting a check to the Wounded Warrior Project on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 4:30PM at the Wounded Warrior Project’s downtown Pittsburgh office and taking a tour of their facilities.  The Wounded Warrior Project is on the 9th floor of One Oxford Centre at 301 Grant Street. Please sign in on the first floor before taking the elevator.  If you park in the Oxford Garage on Cherry Way, bring your ticket with you to have your parking reimbursed.  Everyone is welcome to attend; please plan on stopping by!

Street Closures for Morningside Mile September 14th

If you live along the race course or north of the 6900 block of Greenwood Street (1800 and 1900 blocks of Chislett and Antietam, 6900 block of Greenwood, Bishop, Standish, Manistee and Witherspoon), you will be impacted by the street closures required for the race.

Cars will not be able to park along the race course from 7:00am to approximately 9:00am on the day of the race Saturday, September 14, 2013.   If you live north of Greenwood Street, you will be able to park on your street, but will not be able to pass through the intersection of Greenwood and Chislett during the race time.  You will be able to exit along Gael Way.  Also, if you live on Villanova or Bossart, your vehicles can remain parked on those streets, but you will not be able to get out until approximately 9:00am.

In the case of any emergency at a home along the course or that is blocked by the course, the race will be paused and emergency vehicles will be allowed to proceed uninhibited.
