Route 8 Butler Street Ramp and Island Removal Begins Thursday in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing work on a temporary roadway at the intersection of Butler Street (Route 8) and One Wild Place in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin on Thursday, Oct. 31, weather permitting.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 crews will begin removing the traffic island and the eastbound right hand turn ramp from Butler Street to One Wild Place in preparation for construction a temporary roadway.  Motorists will still be able to make a right hand turn from eastbound Butler Street to One Wild Place at the traffic signal.

The work is part of the Route 8 Heth’s Run Bridge replacement project.  The existing bridge built in 1913-14 will be replaced with a new structure.  A temporary roadway through the Pittsburgh Zoo parking lot will be implemented for cars and light trucks.  Additionally, the project includes reconstruction of 870 feet of Butler Street, improvements on One Wild Place, drainage, and sidewalk and signal upgrades.

Traffic advisory from PennDOT Regarding Heth’s Run Bridge Construction

From PennDOT…..Route 8 Butler Street Eastbound Restrictions Begin Monday in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing lane restrictions on Route 8 (Butler Street) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin on Monday, Oct. 28, weather permitting.

Crews will be digging test holes for a new sign structure east of the intersection of Route 8 and One Wild Place daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Saturday, Nov. 30. Most work will occur behind the curb, however, the eastbound lane of Route 8 will be narrowed as needed to accommodate the work. City of Pittsburgh Police will control traffic through the work zone.
