MACC Easter Event

Join your friends and neighbors for some Easter fun!

This year’s Morningside Mile Comedy Night will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014, at the VFW. This is a 21 and over event.

  • Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door
  • Sliders (pulled pork, ham bbq, and italian roast beef,) + veg chili will be available for $2 each

Merry Morningside 2013!

This year, Morningside will be overflowing with holiday cheer and there will be something for everyone, so please join us for any or all of the following:

  • Enter the Morningside Christmas light decorating contest!
  • Join your neighbors for caroling or sing along when the carolers come to your door!
  • Enjoy refreshments at the holiday party while you vote for your favorite house in the decorating competition!
  • Light the neighborhood Christmas tree!

Merry Morningside Events

Caroling – Sunday, December 15th at 5:00pm

Meet at Rep. Dom Costa’s office, 6808 Greenwood Street (hot chocolate will be available!)

Song sheets will be provided, but bring your own flashlight and festive scarf or hat!  Caroling will last until it gets too cold or 6:00pm, whichever comes first.

Holiday Party – Sunday, December 15th at 6:00pm. Christmas cookies, tree trimming, and more!

The Bulldog Pub, 1818 Morningside Avenue

Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the St. Raphael’s Food Pantry.

Attendees may vote for their favorite entry in the holiday light decorating competition from 6:00pm – 6:30pm; winners will be announced at 7:00pm. Holiday refreshments will be provided and usual pub fare will be available for purchase.

Holiday Home Decorating Competition – Wednesday, December 11th – Deadline to enter homes in the competition.  Register now online! or Download registration form

Saturday, December 14th at 5:00pm – Final decorations must be hung!  Judges will tour homes this evening and pictures will be taken for the people’s vote.*

Sunday, December 15th at 7:00pm – Winners will be announced at the holiday party, but decorators need not be present to win.

* There will be new guest judges this year and only those Morningsiders who come to the party can vote, so it’s a whole new ball game!  🙂

Competition Rules

Entry

  1. To be considered for judging, a home must be registered in the competition.  Judges will not visit decorated homes that have not submitted an entry form.  Register now!

  2. Online entries must be received by Wednesday, December 11th.

  3. There is no cost to enter the competition.

  4. Only residential properties/units in Morningside may enter. This includes apartments above businesses, but not storefronts.

Judging

  1. Places will be awarded based on a combination of the Contest Judges’ Vote and a People’s Vote (think “Dancing with the Stars”).

  2. Lights are not required, but are highly encouraged (judging will take place after dark.)

  3. Contest Judges will be looking for the lights/decorations that they like the most – not necessarily the house that is the most decorated.  All judging is subjective.  Contest Judges and Morningsiders voting in the People’s Vote may judge based on whatever criteria they choose.

  4. Decorations must be hung by Saturday, December 14th at 5:00pm.  Contest Judges will evaluate the registered homes after that time.  Also on the evening of December 14th, contest organizers will photograph the homes.  Pictures will be shared on facebook and put on display at the Merry Morningside Holiday Party for consideration for the People’s Vote.

Winners/Prizes

  1. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded courtesy of the Morningside Area Community Council.

  2. First place will receive $50, second place will receive $35, and third place will receive $15.  The first place winner will also receive a trophy to display through the New Year.

  3. Winners will be announced at the Merry Morningside Holiday Party on Sunday, December 15th.  Contestants need not be present to win.  First, second, and third prize winners who do not attend the party will be contacted within 24 hours.

  4. Winners must be able to provide proof of residency in the winning home to claim their prize.

Rules for Multi-Unit Properties (Duplexes, Apartments, etc.)

  1. Units in multi-unit properties may enter individually or together.  For example, 123 Main Street, 1st Floor and 123 Main Street, 2nd Floor could enter together and be judged as one household or enter separately and compete against each other for the prize.

  2. If a multi-unit “team” places, the cash prize will be doubled and split amongst the total number of units that have entered together.  If there are more than two units, the prize will still double and be split evenly among the units.  For example, if 456 First Street, 1st Floor, 2nd Floor, and 3rd Floor enter together and win second prize ($35), it will be doubled ($35×2 = $70) and split amongst the three units ($70/3 units = $23.33 per unit.)

  3. If a unit in a multi-unit building enters, they must specify what should be included for judging – for example, “123 Main Street, 2nd floor of house plus yard.”

Major Community Clean Up!

MACC is excited to announce a MAJOR COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP on Saturday, November 9th!

In addition to our usual fall clean-up, the Allegheny CleanWays Dumpbusters will be clearing a long-standing dump site on a hillside between Marietta and Baker Streets and could use a few additional adventurous and sure-footed volunteers.

WHAT: Morningside neighborhood and dump site clean-ups

WHO: Individuals and groups (sports teams, church groups, scouts, etc.). Dump site volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and those under 18 must bring a waiver signed by a parent. DOWNLOAD WAIVER

WHEN: Saturday, November 9, 2013

TIME: 9:30am – 1:00pm (or until you have to leave)

Neighborhood clean-up: Meet at the Morningside VFW, 1820 Morningside Ave

Dump site clean-up: Intersection of Marietta and Premo Street

Possible areas of clean up include:

  • Marietta Street dump site – coordinated by Allegheny CleanWays
  • Natoli Field
  • Heth’s Field
  • Baker Street
  • Stanton Avenue
  • Business District

Community service hours available. Volunteers should sign in the day of event to receive trash bags, gloves, instruction, etc.  Pre-volunteer sign up is encouraged.

OTHER: If you are not able to help on the 9th, but would like to donate homemade or purchased snacks for either or both groups of volunteers, they would be greatly appreciated!  Please coordinate with Emily at emilykeebler@yahoo.com or 412-204-7410.  Allegheny CleanWays will be providing pizza after the clean-up for those who work on the dump site.
